Just like every summer, the night guided tours restart: a wonderful path through the most important monuments of Ravenna’s mosaic. Every friday from the 9th of July to the 27th of August it will be possible to visit, from 9PM to 11PM, three UNESCO heritage monuments: Basilica of San Vitale, Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and, only on fridays, Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe.
During this important event, i would be happy to share exciting and unique moments with you through my guided tours, accurately organized ad prepared in detail, so you will be able to get the subliminal messages hidden inside the wonderful byzantine basilica of San Vitale and Mausoleum of Galla Placidia: the tour through the hystoric centre of Ravenna lasts about 2 hours and allows a full-immersion in the history and art of these two emblematic monuments in Ravenna.
Night guided tours of Ravenna
The first monument is Basilica of San Vitale, one of the best examples of byzantine art in Italy and throughout the world. What makes it extraordinary are the intense byzantine influences both in the architecture and in the iconography of the interior decoration.
Just around the corner you can find Mausoleum of Galla Placidia: an architectural gem able to surprise the visitors due to its simple external structure revealing sumptuous and beautiful mosaic masterpieces in the inside.
Its famous night sky also inspired the american singer Cole Porter to write his song “Night and Day”.
Night guided tours offer the chance to visit the monuments safe from the heat of the day. During the night, paradoxically, the absence of natural light brings out the glitz of the ancient mosaic decorations: during these days the mosaic stars of the Mausoleum’s ceiling shine more than the ones of Ravenna’s sky. Our tour will continue until the the Tomb of the poet Dante Alighieri with a stopover in Piazza del Popolo… if you’d like to, you can taste a very good homemade icecream.
It is also possible to organise personalised guided tours for individual tourists, small groups and for larger groups.
Kids will receive a funny gift at the end of the evening.
