Let’s start again with a special Festival

At the time of Covid-19, music starts from Ravenna and precisely on June 21, the summer solstice day, when Master Riccardo Muti will inaugurate a new season of the Ravenna Festival. This important event, with its concerts and shows, will surely bring us a little joy and peace of mind, needed now more than ever.

The Festival features a completely renewed program compared to the initial one, when the word “coronavirus” was still a perfect stranger for us. It will be a great emotion for me to attend the 31st edition of the Ravenna Festival, because until the end it was feared that this important international event could not take place because of the pandemic. Now, the long-awaited moment has come, and by adopting all the security measures to combat the virus, we can finally sit in an open-air theater and enjoy the show.

The Festival starts with an opening concert that will leave its mark, conducted by Master Riccardo Muti together with the Orchestra Giovanile Cherubini and the soprano singer Rosa Feola. The concert venue will be the  historic and evocative Rocca Brancaleone, a former Venetian fortress surrounded by a fantastic park, located just a few steps away from Ravenna’s city center. This place was also the venue of Ravenna Festival’s debut in 1990 that, since then, has enriched our city with the greatest performances of international artists such as Mauruzio Pollini Zubin Metha Lorin Maazel Roberto Bolle Martha Argerich etc. I would like to think of this particular moment as a signal of great and new opportunities for the city of Ravenna.

This year’s edition will be very special and will take place from 21 June to 30 July: on the Rocca stage we will see a succession of shows of all kinds involving music, dance, opera etc. This will be for everyone a very important and symbolic appointment, also featured by the presence of the Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini and the television coverage of RAI.
